ECHA’s plan to ban the use of intentionally added microplastics in cosmetics is based on “a whole clutch of errors and misunderstandings,” according to Cosmetics Europe’s Director-General John Chave. He points out that cosmetics are a relatively small contributor to microplastic marine litter. “It’s difficult to think of any other field of activity where a 2% contributor picks up 79% of the tab,” he says.
