As more gene therapies outside the oncology and rare disease space come to the market, strategies for paying for these expensive treatments are set to evolve. Paul Goudreau, executive director & head of Phase IV Solutions at the CRO Covance, told Pink Sheet that treatments with larger patient populations and wider usage are likely to come with lower prices than rare disease or oncology gene therapies, yet prices are likely to be relatively high compared with other new medicine because of the greater development costs associated with gene therapies. Stakeholders are considering how to move forward in terms of paying for these expensive new therapies.
