The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has used information gathered as part of their industry-critical “Implant Files” reporting series to create a database of more than 700,000 medical devices and their related safety information. The resulting International Medical Devices Database (IMDD) has in turn been acknowledged as a valuable repository of information from the manufacturing and marketing points of view, but has been criticized by some industry experts as being confusing to less-than savvy consumers who may access the data.
