This report presents an overview of selected medical specialties and the number of surgical procedures performed for selected diseases/disorders in the European Union country of Spain.
Of Spain’s 46.8 million population, the number of those age 65 and older comprisean estimated 17.5%. The country is expected to experience gradual growth in theage 65 and older group over the coming years, with this population projected to comprise an estimated 18.5% by the year 2020. According to World Health Organization (WHO) estimates, 9.4% of Spain’s gross domestic product was spenton healthcare in 2011. This report presents an overview of selected medical specialties and the number of surgical procedures performed for selected diseases/disorders in the European Union country of Spain.
