In 2018, Hawaii became first state to enact legislation banning the sale of sunscreens containing octinoxate and oxybenzone–two very common ingredients. The law, expected to go into effect in 2021, is intended to protect marine ecosystems. Opponents of the legislation included the Consumer Healthcare Product Association and the Hawaii Medical Association. Find out how manufacturers will adjust, and learn how the FDA is already looking at certain ingredients in sunscreens.
